The first glimpse of a true talent - Within the long list of talents produced by the La Face factory during the 90, the songwriter Donell Jones has been truly one of the more interesting. Shortly after the release of this debut album he s been often compared to Stevie Wonder, considering the similar tone of voice and the fact that he made an inspired cover of Wonder s Knocks Me off My Feet. In this project L.A. Reid and Babyface left a great freedom to Donell Jones creativity, so he could wrote the songs, be a part of the album production and care personally drums and keyboards arrangement. In the following efforts Donell Jones has substantially confirmed his skill of talented songwriter and performer, even if his 99 album Where I Wanna Be has been undoubtedly a step above the more recent productions of his discography.
DA BOMB - THIS ALBUM IS CRAZY, ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED ARTIST OF ALL TIME!DON T SLEEP ON DONNEL JONES. IF YOU DN T HAVE IT GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN MORE PLAY.
One of the best debut of the nineties - Donell Jones burst one the scene in 1996 with an amazing debut in the form of My Heart. The first single a remake of Stevie s Wonder s Knocks Me Off My Feet was cool but Mr. Jones really showed his skills with the ballads I Want You To Know, No Interruptions and Natural Thing. If you don t have this album in your collection then you re really missing out.
Why did I wait so long to buy this? @}->--- - I ve been a fan of Donell for a little while now, but for some reason never got this cd. Why?? It s great. I bought it recently and really love it - as much as all the other albums of his. He s got a great smooth voice and the tracks on here are good for his voice. He sings with lots of emotion and he can belt them out when need be. I especially love Wish You Were Here, Believe In Me and Knocks Me Off His Feet. I m telling you - as a fan of R n b and of Donell, do not do what I did, and wait so long to get this. This should be mandatory listening. You ll love it too.
My Heart - This is classic r&b by a wonderful new talent - an excellent debut. The mood of the disc is definitely mid-tempo to ballady songs but Donell s beautiful voice carries it well. I was also impressed by the fact that he wrote/co-wrote/produced and arranged 98% of this disc. It s a shame it wasn t as heavily promoted as his 2nd disc was because as I listened, I don t recall hearing any of these songs. I like the fact that on this disc, he sings about the feelings of love and what s in his heart as opposed to the new jack bump & grind explicit lyrics that are staples in so many songs today (particularly male r&b artists). My favorite tracks: I WANT YOU TO KNOW (beautiful love song), MY HEART, YOU SHOULD KNOW, KNOCKS ME OFF MY FEET (can t top Stevie Wonder but A for effort), IN THE HOOD (remix).I d highly recommend this disc to those who are seeking good r&b music with heartfelt lyrics & smooth grooves w/o sexually explicit lyrics.
